We have two groups of up to 18 children in each group. The morning group is open from 8.30am to 12.45pm and the afternoon group is open from 12.15pm to 4.30pm.
Our operating hours correspond to the operating hours of the Tuusula municipal preschool year, with the exception of the closing day of the autumn and spring semesters and the optional summer playschool. We are on a summer holiday between Midsummer and the beginning of a new school year.
All Montessori playschools are characterised by the Montessori equipment, which Pikkulukkari also has. Montessori equipment is divided into practical work, sensory equipment, mother tongue, mathematics, and cultural equipment. Handicraft is practiced daily.
Children practice everyday activities, including washing dishes, baking, and cooking macaroni pasta. All furniture is designed to be suitable for children.
In addition to working with the equipment, the children sing, make their own performances together or alone, talk about their own experiences, listen to a book read by an instructor, discuss current topics, play tongue twisters, to name a few. Thus, Montessori pedagogy does not only mean different-looking tools, but aims to develop the child's cognitive, emotional, and social skills side-by-side by supporting each other.
The child has a desire to learn, and when he or she is provided with the appropriate environment and facilities, learning takes place as a matter of course without actual teaching!
